When public bodies or private businesses purchase goods and services on the market, it is often done without considering the impacts of these buying decisions on their energy consumption and energy costs. With increasing energy prices, the importance of well-informed choices is rising, which - in addition to the purchase price - takes the life-time costs of an appliance, a building, a vehicle, a heating system etc. into account. The European Energy Services Directive places a strong emphasis on the role of public procurement as an important energy efficiency measure and requires public bodies to take action in this field. Therefore, this seminar will showcase best practice examples and instruments for public and private procurement decisions in favour of energy efficiency and will provide concrete guidance how to build up a green procurement system in a company or a public body. It will present policies and programmes promoting sustainable procurement around the globe. This event is organised in the frame of the IEE-project "GreenLabelsPurchase".
